Subject:      Who’s Who in Coaching Survey – Who Shaped It, Who’s Shaping It

Dear Colleague:

My name is Vikki Brock and I am doing my PhD studies at the International University of Professional Studies  on the evolution of professional coaching under the direction of Dr. Barbara Lemaire.   The IUPS Human Subjects Review Committee has examined the methods and procedures of this proposal and has agreed that this study meets their guidelines for research with human subjects.

My intent is to identify and acknowledge the people who shaped and are shaping the coaching field internationally.  As such, the purpose of this survey is to:

•     Recognize key people and organizations who have contributed most to professional coaching.

•     Create an International Who’s Who of key influencers on the coaching field.

•     Identify individuals and organizations for follow-on interviews to gather further details on the evolution of coaching.

You are eligible to complete this survey if you are a(n):

•     Established coaching organization

•     Coach training school or program

•     Academic or education institution who offers or is considering offering coaching education

•     Significant purchaser or provider of coaching

•     Professional in a related profession such as psychology, organization development, human resources, etc

•     Professional coach

I appreciate your participation in this survey. The survey should take 20-25 minutes to complete – your input will make a difference in creating an accurate representation of the history of the coaching field.  The core survey questions are:

1.   In priority order, what are the top five professions that have influenced and/or contributed the most to the coaching field? For example: sports, consulting, education, human resources, management, organization development, philosophy, psychology, sociology, training, etc.

2.   What individuals, in a related profession, have contributed the most to establish professional coaching? Please include name followed by profession and contact information if known. Contact information will be used for follow-on interviews with top key influencers.

3.   What related professional organizations are you a member of?

4.   Who are the most influential professional coaches of all time? Please include name followed by contact information if known.

5.   What individuals do you see as currently shaping and/or redefining the coaching field? These may be people who are on the cutting edge of the profession, doing/saying surprising and thought provoking things. Please include name followed by contact information if known. Contact information will be used for follow-on interviews with top key influencers.

6.   What are the top five professional coaching associations/service organizations in priority order? You may select from the following list or add your own.

7.   If you have any other names or information about the evolution of coaching, who shaped the coaching field or who's shaping it, please include it here. If you would like me to contact you about this information, please include your name and contact information here.

You havm the opportunity to leave your name and contact information at the end of the survey if you would like to receive the aggregate results of this survey.  All your answers are anonymous and confidential, used for research purposes only.  Your contact information will not be associated with your questionnaire responses.  Upon survey completion, you will also have an opportunity to nominate yourself for the “Who’s Who in Coaching”.

Please complete the survey by December 31, 2005.

I ask you to enlist your members, colleagues, clients, graduates and/or students to complete this survey and contribute their legacy to the evolution of coaching.
